On Tuesday night the U17’s played Yateley in the NHYCL and the match produced a thrilling finish.
Cove started the game in awe of the their opponents who fielded 3 boys who have represented the County and 7 who have represented North Hants District. The mood in the camp changed when George Roylance took a wicket with the first ball of the game. Although Yateley looked like getting on top Jamie Glanville 2 for 20 and Tom Redhead 0 for 17 kept things in check. Yateley eventually ended with 139 for 6.
Cove made a disastrous start with 3 wickets falling for 7. However Rhys Merrifield stepped up to the mark and thumped the bowling to all parts of the ground before having to retire on 53. Alex Hambleton 17, George Alexander 16 and Dylan Lai 10 all made valiant efforts to set a victory. It came to the last over with Cove needing 15 to win with 2 wickets in hand. Jamie Glanville was run out and Rhys returned to partner Tashinga. Yateley put their men on the boundary and the batsmen were held in check as Cove finished 6 runs short of what would have been a great victory.

On Sunday the U17’s recorded an 8 wicket victory over Fleet. James Taylor and Jamie Glanville took 3 wickets each as Cove restricted Fleet to 117.
Cove rode their luck with Jake Roylance being dropped twice before he powered his way to 40. Rhys Merrifield was dropped on 0 and 1 before he saw Cove to victory with 38no.
