The Chairmans Page

We are now starting to look forward to the 2016 cricket season. Work has been maintained during the wet winter months and the square and the outfield, after a cut shortly will look in very good condition. As with most cricket clubs it is a fairly small amount of helpers and volunteers that maintain and manage the cricket club and we are very thankful for those people’s support. Sometimes we just don’t realise how lucky we are with our facilities and high standards that we maintain. Having played at the club for the past 30 years I think I am in a good position to confirm that over all these years there has only be a handful of grounds that I have personally played at that can even match what we are fortunate to have.

Our 1st XI, will start this season back in the Thames Valley League Div 1, following last year’s disappointment in the Home Counties Premier League. Under Stan Marisa and Jordan Finney I believe we have a good team in place to lead a challenge at the top of the division. We also make a change at Academy level, with a team moving across to the Hampshire league, to improve our relationship with the County. I wish all our five Saturday sides well. On Sundays we have the Ladies Hampshire league team and will also be running a development side being led by our coach.

The colts will also be very busy at all age groups, both boys and girls across the summer and I am sure will continue the successes achieved last year.

Off the pitch we have a year full of good social events for everyone to enjoy and I hope with our monthly newsletter you will be kept up to speed on these areas. These revenues help keep our club going, so your attendance would be fully appreciated. Terry, Alan and the bar committee keep the bar well stocked at good prices. Please do come along in the summer and support our various teams at all levels.

Finally, we have a number of projects that are been worked on, including a complete new net and training facility, purchasing a new cricket roller and other projects within the clubhouse. If you think you can help in any way by way of donations or potential larger sponsorship arrangements I would be delighted to hear from you.

Troy.
