Happy new year to all our members for 2020.

I just wanted to take a few moments to update you all on events at the club and our plans for 2020.

Cricket – We have been busy since the end of the 2019 season in trying to understand what exactly our playing members want from cricket over the coming years. Various open meetings and surveys have been both informative and have helped us understand what as a club we can do to help. These things are always two ways, so as we start to think about winter nets, we would ask all players to look to attend some of the sessions and get themselves ready and committed for the upcoming season. 2019, as with a lot of clubs, was very frustrating in terms of player availability, so everyone’s help will be required as we go forward.

We are in the process of securing the services of an Australian overseas player and would hope to be able to confirm this by the end of the month. We also are looking to secure two additional players of first team level to help at the top end of the club. We know we have some exciting juniors coming through and their continued integration into senior cricket will again be key.

The ladies this year will be running two senior league sides on a Sunday for the first time. Please come down and support them in the sunshine.

Pavilion and facilities – The pavilion is due a new lick of paint and some new carpets upstairs and we hope to start this shortly. The kitchen is having a few changes with a new large fridge freezer and units that will support the team for the excellent catering we pride ourselves on, both in and out of the cricket season. Again this will all be up and running by the time the season starts. The winter darts starts again for the men on Monday and Friday nights and the ladies on a Wednesday. Please keep an eye out for the social calendar in 2020, as the team continue to ask members on what they want. Race Nights, comedy nights, bingo, summer and winter draws, the annual dinner and dance and end of season evenings are all planned and need your support. The bar remains competitively priced and with a good selection of beers, wines and spirits.

We have a number of projects on the go, with the main one around new nets. I will look to update you all on this over the coming weeks, as we have secured funding, but have a short term plan in place that will upgrade the existing net facilities and then the new 3 lane nets put in place either in 2021 or 2022, dependent on a national infrastructure project (Esso) that will have a role to play in 2021. We are also hoping to upgrade our scoreboard and garages over the next 12 months, again a big priority for us.

Memberships – Collection of memberships, both cricket and social are key to us upgrading all of the above. Please do pay memberships on time. With regard to your playing membership we are looking at a new option to pay over 4 months on direct debit and these notifications will be coming out shortly. Please set these up and help spread the costs for yourselves. We are also reviewing a new membership card, which will be issued upon receipt of payment. If you haven’t got a membership card you will not receive the benefits that club members have, including reduced charges for the private hiring of the club and lower bar prices.

I look forward to seeing people over the coming months.

Many thanks,

Troy.
