Developing The Young Players Of The Future
Cove Cricket Club is an ECB Focus Club with over 20 qualified coaches engaging in coaching activities throughout the year. We have strong links into the 12 local schools and frequently run coaching courses during school time, in after school clubs and promoting the enjoyment of cricket throughout assembly presentations. In 2012 Charlotte Edwards the England Ladies Captain attend local schools with the Cove Coaching Team to help promote cricket to all.
Our objective is to be at the centre of the local community and provide the opportunity for all to play cricket and enjoy club life. We have over 120 youngsters within our development programmes both girls and boys. We have a well defined development pathway for all abilities and we start as young as five hoping that they will continue through to either representative cricket for their County or Country for the talent and lucky few but most importantly into the club senior teams at Cove.
Our Senior Men’s 1st XI play in the Thames Valley Cricket League and our development programme is focused on maintain that standard for years to come.
Cove Academy was established over five years ago as a blueprint to encourage and develop our younger players before they crossed over into senior cricket. Like most clubs boys and girls at this age can easily lose focus of sporting activities and the Academy at Cove is all about encouraging them to stay in cricket, develop their skills and enjoy the social side of being part of a sports club. Over the last five years we have progressed every year at least 3 players into the senior setup. Players have even emerged to gain county cricket contracts but most pleasing of all at least 6 members are now frequently playing in the 1st and 2nd XIs.
Cove was one of the founding clubs in Hampshire of girls cricket and we have a strong girls and ladies section. We have a number of girls playing representative cricket for Hampshire and in the full Ladies County Squad. The Cove Senior Ladies Team won the Hampshire County Ladies Division One title in 2012 just three years after they were formed. We are keen to develop this structure adding an U9 squad in 2013 and we will be developing a mid week T20 Ladies team in 2013.
Cove is about being part of a club, not only on the field but also off the field as we actively encourage our youngsters to get involved in events, fundraising and being part of club committees.
We run the following teams:
Boys: U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17
Girls: U9, U11, U13 and U16
Cove are considered to be one of the leading clubs in the UK for both male and female cricket and if you are looking for a progressive club, with high quality facilities and an excellent coaching structure then Cove is the club you should consider for you son and daughter to join.
